Austin’s
Place
This website is done in dedication to my son Austin, who is autistic. He was
diagnosed with autism when he was 2. Life has been an uphill battle since the but I honestly would not change it for the entire
world. There is not much information in the Dayton, Ohio area to help
kids or adults with autism so I am hoping to change that. Even if it is such a little thing as this web page if I can help
out one person it’s worth the time. I am very open to suggestions concerning this page. If you have any please email
them to me. Also, if you have any links, books, etc. you want posted please feel free to email them to me too. Just keep in
mind I have final authority as to what gets posted on this sit but I do promise I will open-minded about all suggestions.

My wonderful son Austin
I have never let this get in the way of him being a little boy. He likes airplanes,
toy cars, and tractor rides with his papaw. We wrestle and rough house and he likes it when I push him on a swing. We also
like to take walks in the evening before bedtime. He is amazing with computer games and we have found this to be a good way
to help us teach him. There are many great games out there that are fun for kids and educational. We actually gave him his
own computer so that he can play when he wants and he does not crash my computer (which has happened, a couple of times).
Austin is not a good eater. As a matter of fact we eat more
or less the same things every day. We don’t have him on any special diet because we are just happy that Austin is eating at all. For those parents that are in the same boat that we are in, Pediasure
is a great way we found to get Austin some necessary vitamins
and minerals he needs. Its is a bit expensive but it is very worth it. Since giving him Pediasure we have noticed a difference
in him. All those things in the daily multi-vitamin I take are important for kids too. All that good stuff helps to get those
neurons in the brain firing.
Austin
also does not talk that much. A word here or there is about all we get on most days. The rest of the time he hoots like an
owl or just stays quiet. I am very sure he is trying to break out of his shell when he is hooting and say something. I can
not imagine how frustrating that must be. Austin is pretty
good at letting us know what he wants. Usually this is done by dragging us to what he wants but sometimes he brings what ever
he needs or wants to us. He is quite innovative in his communication when he wants something real bad. When he was about three
if he wanted to go somewhere Austin would point to his knee and then wave. "Knee go bye-bye" or "Me go bye-bye" is what this
meant.
